Drug & Alcohol Policy

Overseas Tankers maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol and prohibited substances onboard its managed vessels. The Company is committed to ensuring a safe, healthy, secure, and professional working environment for all seafarers, employees, contractors, and operational personnel.

It is Company policy that no seafarer, regardless of rank or position, shall operate a vessel or any onboard equipment while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when there is any risk of impairment that may compromise safety, operational performance, or environmental protection.

Policy Standards & Compliance

  • Alcohol impairment is defined as a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 40mg/100ml or higher.
  • The possession, consumption, distribution, or use of alcoholic beverages and illicit drugs onboard Company-managed vessels is strictly prohibited.
  • The misuse or abuse of legal medication is prohibited, except where medically necessary and properly prescribed by authorized healthcare professionals.
  • Any individual found using or possessing prohibited substances onboard will face disciplinary action, including possible dismissal, in accordance with applicable national and international maritime laws.
  • Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted to ensure compliance with Company standards and maritime safety regulations.
  • Mandatory pre-employment testing is required for all new hires prior to boarding Company-managed vessels.
