• To ensure safe operational practices and maintain a healthy, secure working environment onboard.
• To minimize the risk of personal injury and prevent the loss of life.
• To protect vessels, cargo, and the surrounding environment from harm.
• To create and maintain onboard conditions that support occupational health and safety for seafarers.
• To identify and assess potential risks to ships, personnel, and the environment, implement appropriate protective measures, and manage operations within ALARP (“as low as reasonably practicable”) levels of risk.
• To continually develop and strengthen the safety management capabilities of both onboard crew and shore-based staff, including emergency preparedness for health, safety, and environmental incidents.
